TypeType Unveils TT Rationalist Typography
TypeType Foundry releases TT Rationalist version 1.100, refining slab serif typography with trapezoidal serifs and humanist proportions.
Traditional slab serifs often suffer from Victorian clunkiness. Heavy geometric blocks clutter dense editorial spreads. In TT Rationalist version 1.100, TypeType Foundry dismantles that stiffness through disciplined modern typography. The foundry replaces massive rectangular slabs with subtle trapezoidal serifs. Softer stroke contrast creates a smooth reading cadence. This balance makes extended text comfortable to read without optical fatigue. The studio preserves structural slab presence while giving body copy room to breathe across complex page layouts, cultural posters, and print publications.
Trapezoidal Serifs and Systematic Typography Architecture
Delicate anatomical refinements distinguish this updated release. TypeType Foundry replaced traditional serifs on the legs of characters like R, K, Ж, and Я with curved strokes. This adjustment adds warmth to the rationalist frame. In addition, the true italics feature calligraphic curves across glyphs like k, y, x, v, and w. Beyond standard alphabet cuts, the typeface provides 31 OpenType features. These include matching Latin and Cyrillic small caps, tabular figures, and alternate shapes for the ampersand, upright g, and italic k. With 1,127 glyphs per style, this systematic typography delivers technical precision for multilingual publishing.
The complete family spans 22 distinct styles. It includes 10 upright weights from Thin to Black with 10 matching italics, plus two variable fonts. This broad optical range serves diverse editorial hierarchies. Designers can shift from sharp display headlines down to compact footnote annotations. The bold Black cut anchors event posters and book covers. Meanwhile, lighter weights maintain crisp legibility on digital screens, watch faces, and mobile interfaces. Supporting over 235 languages across Latin and Cyrillic scripts, TT Rationalist adapts to books, magazines, and digital apps. It offers creative studios a versatile typographic palette. The finished typography pairs rational structure with expressive craft.
