Lundgren+Lindqvist reimagines editorial design for Svensk Bokkonst, compiling genuine pages from winning books into a prong-bound catalogue.

Most book catalogues rely on flat studio photos. Digital photos strip away paper grain, ink depth, and binding tension. Gothenburg studio Lundgren+Lindqvist took a fresh path for the Svensk Bokkonst competition. Instead of taking photos of the winning books, the team skipped reproduction. They joined with Taberg Media Group to take apart actual copies of all twenty-five winning titles. Workers sorted and collated original printed leaves by hand. Each printed catalogue holds a real leaf from every single awarded book. This method turns the annual volume into a physical archive of Swedish book craft. Readers feel real ink layers, varied paper weights, and tactile print finishes on each spread. No two copies share the same mix of pages. The design honors book arts by placing real production artifacts right into readers' hands.

Tangible Production Realism and Editorial Design

Strong grid systems and clear type bring calm order to the varied pages. The catalogue size matches the widest winning book and the tallest title. This wide format holds every inserted page without cutting any edges. Smaller pages rest naturally beside larger sheets, leaving open margins across the spreads. To anchor the editorial design, Lundgren+Lindqvist set all text in Tid. The neo-grotesque font was drawn by Göran Söderström and Stefania Malmsten for Letters From Sweden in 2024. Its crisp letterforms bring clean structure to curatorial essays and technical notes. A clean index shows cover images next to a physical color card. This card gives readers a true guide for tone, scale, and lighting conditions.

The catalogue uses a metal prong fastener binding made with Norrmalms Kartongfabrik. Silver prongs slip through punched holes on the left margin. This binding gives the book the honest feel of a studio scrapbook. The open hardware invites readers to open, inspect, and touch each page. A large folded poster wraps over the pages to serve as the catalogue cover. Each of the twenty-five posters shows a studio view of a winning book on one side. On the reverse, candid photos show library staff reading the book in the Royal Library reading hall. Circular craft extends into the award diplomas as well. Lundgren+Lindqvist took the hard covers from the disassembled books and added labels signed by chair Nina Ulmaja. This focused editorial design lets raw book craft speak for itself.
