Shake-it Mixer: Inside OlssønBarbieri Packaging Design
OlssønBarbieri crafted a refined packaging design for Shake-it Mixer, pairing custom fluted glass with 19th-century medicinal labels.
Home mixology often relies on artificial cordials in dull plastic jugs. OlssønBarbieri changed this story for Shake-it Mixer. Danish drinks group Hans Just Group wanted to revive cordial culture across home bars. The team looked back to early drink history. During the Renaissance, Italian apothecaries steeped herbs into herbal tonics. These drink blends soon turned into classic cocktail mixers. OlssønBarbieri drew ideas from Jerry Thomas and his 1862 bartending guide. Their packaging design honors this legacy of craft mixing. Sculpted clear glass reveals the bright cordial tones inside each bottle. The new shape balances carafe poise with quick speed behind the bar counter.
Tactile Fluted Glass and Packaging Design Heritage
The label system stems from classic apothecary goods. A bold display sans-serif curves across an arch to anchor the brand name. Below the wordmark, a clean grid lists cordial numbers and taste notes. Hand-drawn botanical sketches by Irene Laschi and Tomas Lindell highlight each mixer. The line art depicts fresh Persian limes, ripe berries, and tart fruit. A blind-embossed band wraps around the bottom label edge. This paper relief separates key text from the artwork without heavy ink lines. On the back, clear diagrams share cocktail drink ideas inspired by old Italian aperitifs.
Material choices bring tactile craft to every piece. OlssønBarbieri created a custom glass bottle with twelve vertical flutes. When sliced across, a fresh lime reveals twelve inner segments called liths. These glass grooves meet at the base like a citrus juicer. They catch bar lighting and give bartenders a firm grip while pouring. Uncoated paper labels add warm texture against crisp aluminium caps and dense cork stoppers. White transport boxes feature bold trade mark stamps of shakers and strainers. This cohesive packaging design turns simple home mixing into an authentic bar ritual.
