Robot Food delivers an energetic packaging design for Hip Pop, pairing psychedelic display typography with tactile matte aluminum cans.

Hip Pop started as a gut-health kombucha brewery founded by Kenny and Emma Thackray. After six years in the functional beverage space, the brand needed to break out of health food aisles and challenge mainstream soda giants. Leeds-based branding agency Robot Food repositioned the identity around raw honesty with the rallying cry "Get real." Rejecting quiet pastel clichés, the visual language embraces bold, clashing color palettes across slim aluminum cans. Deep cobalt blue, electric magenta, sun-drenched orange, and acid yellow define the soda range, while a warm cream background anchors the fermented kombucha line. Each flavor combination creates instant optical contrast on crowded retail shelves. The dynamic packaging design transforms functional gut health into an unapologetic lifestyle drink.

Expressive Typography and Structural Packaging Design

The typographic architecture centers on an amplified evolution of the brand's original scoby-inspired letterforms. Robot Food crafted an expressive display wordmark with rounded, organic contours that nod to living fermentation cultures. Split across two stacked lines, the heavy black letters frame hyper-detailed fruit illustrations that appear to burst outward from the can. Secondary copy uses clean, grotesque sans-serif typography set along tight vertical margins. Bold black nutritional badges communicate probiotic benefits directly without clinical jargon. This structured layout hierarchy gives every can immediate legibility while maintaining a rebellious, counter-culture energy. The cohesive packaging design system allows new seasonal flavors to slot into the lineup effortlessly.

Physical execution balances shelf impact with tactile print finishes. Matte-coated aluminum cans soften the high-saturation graphics while providing a smooth grip in hand. High-gloss spot varnishes highlight the juicy fruit segments, creating subtle depth against the dry matte body. Robot Food extended this graphic framework to corrugated cardboard multi-packs, retail shipper trays, and large-format urban billboards. By combining expressive typography with disciplined production choices, the studio delivers a category-defining beverage identity that thrives in physical grocery aisles and digital commerce alike. The finished packaging design proves that health-focused drinks can ditch sterile clinical tropes in favor of bold graphic confidence.
