Mother Design turned Serial Box into Realm, and the new Realm brand identity pairs a mascot-eyed wordmark with glowing portals and deep purple.

The first thing you meet is the wordmark, and it stares back. Five rounded, condensed letterforms in off-white sit on a near-black field, and the R carries two small dot eyes: Ruby, the brand mascot, embedded directly in the letter. The shapes are soft and slightly strange, closer to inflatable vinyl than to corporate geometry.

Around them, Mother Design built a world of deep purple, near-black, and hits of orange and off-white. The signature move is the portal: gradient arches and ovals that glow from the inside, like doorways into another show. They sit behind headlines, inside the app, and on posters, always humming with the same inner light.

The Realm brand identity system

Typography does the heavy lifting. The display face is Roc Grotesk, a bold condensed grotesque with quirks in all the right places: round where you expect square, friendly where you expect severe. Mother Design runs it enormous. "Sounds goooooood" stretches across a screen with the o's multiplying like bubbles. "Cinema for your earholes" stacks tight and loud. "Listen away" fills a poster edge to edge. For the small stuff, the system switches to Libre Baskerville, a modern revival that keeps long reading comfortable on screens. The brand guideline book shows the hierarchy at work: "TYPE HIERARCHY" in small caps over full-bleed black spreads, "Ruby" and "Listen away" set huge, body copy tucked neatly underneath.

Then there is the sound. Mother Design worked with Felt Not Heard on a sonic mark: dramatic, cinematic, quick with punctuation, built to feel like stepping through a portal. The system lands in the physical world too. The app icon drops the Ruby R onto a purple gradient tile. The business card is all dark stock and Roc Grotesk, edged with a thin purple rule. A street billboard for "The Vela" sets the wordmark beneath a glowing peach-to-purple portal. Everything in the Realm brand identity points the same way: weird, witty, welcoming, in that order.
