Plau Design teamed with studio Greco to build Grecotipo, a bold 32-font family bridging tactile craft with modern type design.

Brazilian design studio Greco needed a clear voice for physical spaces and digital screens. They joined with Rio type foundry Plau Design to craft Grecotipo. Typographers Rodrigo Saiani and Carlos Mignot led the project. Together, they explored the space where print meets pixels. The family splits into two core styles: Normal and Display. Standard corporate grotesques often look cold and stiff. In contrast, Grecotipo adds warmth through soft interior curves. The letterforms draw from Greco's spatial work. Solid weight balances with agile strokes across each cut. Every glyph feels grounded yet fresh.

Dual Architecture and Counterform Geometry in Type Design

The font family spans eight weights from Thin to Black with matching italics. In total, the system includes thirty-two distinct fonts. This structure gives designers complete control over complex layouts. The Display cut stands out with rounded inner counters. These soft curves create bold contrast against flat outer stems. Meanwhile, the Normal cut follows a classic grotesque skeleton. It delivers crisp clarity for long body copy. Plau joined both cuts with shared character quirks. The lowercase g features a sculptural bridge and curved lower loop. This deliberate balance defines the personality of modern type design.

Plau and Greco tested the variable font axes across physical and digital formats. Physical stationery uses Fedrigoni Materica Kraft paper. Envelopes and presentation folders carry neon pink, deep blue, and lime green inks. The raw ink sinks straight into the paper fibers. Heavy canvas tote bags show off the thick Black styles. In addition, exhibition posters display the delicate Thin cuts. Large format prints hang on studio walls. Smooth variable font sliders and video clips show how the glyphs morph. The finished type design connects digital interfaces with tactile print craft.
