Brand Identity: CAMEO by Paprika Design
Paprika Design crafts a tactile brand identity for architecture firm CAMEO, featuring semi-translucent Tyvek and loose project sheets.
Montreal-based studio Paprika Design created a prospective communication system and brand identity for architecture practice Caméo. Rejecting standard promotional brochures, creative director Louis Gagnon and lead designer Daniel Robitaille housed the firm's portfolio within an oversized Tyvek envelope. By repurposing Tyvek—a durable synthetic fiber commonly deployed on building construction sites—the design connects directly to Caméo's architectural roots. The semi-translucent, fibrous casing subtly reveals internal project inserts before the envelope is opened. High-contrast black typography spans the outer surface, anchored by a bold, edge-to-edge "CAMEO" wordmark running across the back flap.
Material Tactility in Architectural Brand Identity
Inside the protective envelope, project case studies are presented as unbound, loose-leaf sheets rather than a stapled booklet. This modular structural framework allows Caméo to reconfigure content tailored to prospective clients across public, commercial, and residential sectors. Paprika Design organizes information using a disciplined architectural grid, balancing precise technical drawings with full-bleed monochromatic photography. Sans-serif typography set in tight tracking maintains visual authority, while generous margins ensure technical specifications remain readable. This structural flexibility across the brand identity guarantees that individual sheets maintain aesthetic cohesion whether viewed independently or compiled as a complete portfolio set.
Material selection serves as the primary conceptual anchor for the entire prospective piece. By utilizing untearable, water-resistant Tyvek material alongside heavy uncoated interior paper stock, Paprika Design establishes a compelling dialogue between raw industrial utility and editorial elegance. Layered physical transparencies create organic visual depth as light passes through the fibrous envelope shell, casting faint shadows over the typographic layouts underneath. Through rigorous material discipline and custom print finishing by LG Chabot, the project demonstrates how an architectural brand identity can communicate spatial sensibility through tactile graphic design without relying on digital gimmicks.
