AIDb identity: Inside Rafael Cespedes' New Branding
Rafael Cespedes built the AIDb identity around a slash-and-spark mark, vivid color, and a generative Midjourney profile for the AI platform.
AIDb logs, discovers, and reviews AI-focused products, combining a user-generated AI database with a social layer. Cespedes answered that with a vibrant, optimistic identity that leans into the web patterns people already know. The mark pairs two borrowed symbols: the slash, shorthand for action in every interface, and the spark, the now-universal shorthand for AI. Together they read as the product in two glyphs, a logo that never needs a caption.
The system earns its optimism through color. A bright chartreuse ground (labeled Volt in the brand book) carries the black wordmark with poster confidence, while Boysenberry purple and Magenta push the palette into the loud, playful register the category usually avoids. Soft generative gradients, made with Midjourney, sit underneath it all, abstract and low-fidelity on purpose, so the brand feels ambient instead of technical.

The AIDb identity runs on type with personality
Neue Machina leads as the primary voice, shown in Light through Bold across the brand book. It sets the wordmark and headlines, including the slash-led "/Typography" spread, where the mark literally opens the section. Good Sans supports as the secondary face, and Input Mono handles the tertiary layer: contents lists, color specs, and the small system labels that keep the brand book feeling like a real tool.
The grid discipline shows in the symbol and wordmark spec pages, with clear-space diagrams and lockup rules drawn directly on the Volt ground. Cespedes lets the type do the talking on big statements, the oversized wordmark on green, then drops to mono for the quieter administrative copy. It is a type system with two volumes and no confusion about when to use each.

The identity proves itself in application, not just presentation. A staff badge pairs the generative gradient with a Volt lanyard, the slash-spark mark holds its own as an app icon between Finder and the App Store, and the business card strips everything back to Volt, type, and the mark. The brand book closes the loop with a full contents system: introduction, logo, color, typography, generative profile, and applications.
What ties it together is the generative profile itself. Each abstract output is unique, but the shared palette and blur keep the library cohesive, so AIDb can produce fresh visuals on demand without breaking the system. It is a clever answer to a real startup problem: a brand that keeps generating content has to generate its own imagery, and this one does it by design.
